NanoStation M2 Setup As An Access Point

I decided to upgrade my Nanostation 2 to the Nanostation m2.

I was so happy with the performance of the Nanostation 2 that i wanted to upgrade to include wireless N .

The Nanostation M2 mode includes IEEE 802.11 B/G/N mixed.

I have set this up as an indoor Access point

I found that the my modems wireless worked well upstairs but would not do the whole house as well as the downstairs area including the garage. I wanted something that just worked everywhere.

I disabled the wireless on the modem and configured the Nanostation m2.

I had a network connection downstairs, so it was simple to connect to the existing network.

Nanostation M2 default IP addres 192.168.1.20 or https://192.168.1.20/link.cgi.

The default username and password is ubnt

I configured the Nanostation as a wireless access point then created a wireless password.

Don't forget to change the Nanostation username and password which is ubnt.

Most people change the wireless password but forget to change the device password.

If you are having issues connecting to it even though the passwords are correct you may need to disable airMax in airMax settings and also set the channel width to 20.

This is the best wireless access point I have used.

Here is some snapshots of my configuration.

Snipping Tool

Ever wanted to add a comment, circle or highlight a word document or pdf easily.

In most cases you could press print screen then paste into paint.

If you are running windows 7 try this, go to Start, then type Snipping tool in the search.

Run the tool, the screen should go opaque, start to highlight a section of the screen you wanted to capture.

Example Below

You can save this as a png, gif, Jpg or html mht file.

Led Digital Lighting Controller

Christmas Lighting Controller

I Purchased the Led Lighting Controller kit from Altronics, One Master controller ( k5885) and 4 Slave units (K5887).

It was designed by Silicon chip electronic magazine, but I had issues with running 4 units together.

3 work fine together but when the 4 units are connected together the lights play up (Play random patterns).

Fix  : Remove the Chain Length Resistor from the last unit. (10k)

The unit allows you to increase the length of the cat 5 between the main unit and the first slave without an issue, but if you wanted to increase the length between any other units it would behave erratic (random patterns).

Say you wanted to connect a 5 meter length to go between the second and the third unit or more than one unit the lights would play up.

Fix : Built a small circuit that increased the voltage pulses that were being sent as serial data from one chip to the next.

TRY THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK BUT MINE WORKS

Traffic Lights Project

It started when I purchased a Garage Parking Sensor so that my wife could park the car without hitting the wall unit and still have room to close the garage door.

One day I went to a Hobby come raceways shop that had a life size Traffic light on display and when I asked where they got it from they offered me a secondhand one.

After cleaning it up I tested it and it all worked.

I then removed all 240v wires.

I then began to rewire the old 6" traffic light to allow it to work on the larger traffic light.

When you open the 6" traffic light you will find a few transistors that operates the Red, Amber and the Green lights. (See attached diagram)

The centre leg of those three transistors feed three relays which then provide 12volts to the X 2150 Led 6watt globes. (Altronics)

To make the globes, I took the 240Volt Edison globes and broke the globe, that left me with three 240v sockets. (Be careful when taking out the glass from the socket, the strong glue which you will need to break away from the socket without damaging the socket is hard to remove).

I then got a halogen socket X 2142 from Altronics, soldered one end of the Halogen socket wire to the middle of the 240v socket and the other end of the wire to the chassis of the 240v socket.

I then filled the 240v empty socket (now with a halogen socket mounted inside) with hot glue.
You will need to hold this in place for 3 minutes or so till cool.

You now need to screw this socket into the traffic lights and then insert the Led globes.
(Take note of the orientation of the globes, they will only work in the one direction)

The rest of the wiring you will need to follow the attached diagram.

To help I will briefly explain.

I connected a 12v 2 amp plug pack (power supply) to a 9volt 7805 regulator.

The 12v was fed to the regulator and to the three relays.

The other end of the regulator will give you a fixed 9 v output which is used to power the Garage Parking Sensor as well as provide 9v switching voltage to the three led traffic lights.
