Am I running 32 Bit Or 64 Bit Windows Media Player

To test whether you are running 32 Bit Or 64 bit Windows Media Player.

Run Windows Media Center

Press Ctrl and Alt And Delete (windows Task Manager), select the Process window

As you can see mine is 32bit.

To confirm, right click on wmplayer.exe *32, the properties.

The 32bit default location is C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Media Player

There is no real need to change Windows Media Player to 64 bit if all is working fine

Changing it to 64 bit may cause issues with 32 bit applications.

Convert Those DVD's To Use In Plex

Unfortunately Plex doesn't seem to support DVD's

I amuse you have rip your personal DVD collection and found that Plex doesn't detect them.

Use MakeMkv Batch : http://www.makemkvbatch.com/   website down

Try : http://www.videohelp.com/tools/VidCoder - works well

There is a quick fix, works at the moment but who knows how long for.

You could move all the DVD's into one folder then setup a new Library

You just move the VOB files only into a folder (must be in folder) and name them as follows

Vts_02_1 s01e01
Vts_02_1 s01e02
Vts_02_1 s01e03

As you can see in this example Vts_02_0 is the first file so I added labelled this as s01e01 then s01e02 and so on.

Vts_02_0.vob will be renamed to Vts_02_0 s01e01.vob
Vts_02_1.vob will be renamed to Vts_02_0 s01e02.vob
Vts_02_2.vob will be renamed to Vts_02_0 s01e03.vob
Vts_02_3.vob will be renamed to Vts_02_0 s01e04.vob
Vts_02_4.vob will be renamed to Vts_02_0 s01e05.vob
Vts_02_5.vob will be renamed to Vts_02_0 s01e06.vob
Vts_02_6.vob will be renamed to Vts_02_0 s01e07.vob

This only works if you setup a new library as TV shows.

You can do this by clicking on the + sign

Then TV Shows

Then Type the name you want to give this EG. Movies2 or DVD's click next

Now click browse for Media Folder

Select the newly created folder with all your DVD's

Then click Add Library

Should look like this

As you can see there is there is 1 Cover with 7 VOB Files inside

A snap shot of each was created.

It would be wiser to convert those Dvd's to say MKV as MKV is supported.

DVD tools

VobMerge: http://www.evilmaster.net/

You can create one Vob file then convert to MKV or use MkvMerge.

MkvMerge : https://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/

Once you download the mkvtoolnix run mmg.exe (MkvMerge)

Another great tool is MakeMKV : http://www.makemkv.com/

Rename your tv series : https://code.google.com/p/mediarenamer/downloads/list

Or rename your Movies with Media Center Master : http://www.mediacentermaster.com/

Batch Move All Vob Ifo DVD Files Into A VIDEO_TS Folder

Your movies in Media Browser and Plex are not displaying correctly.

You can see Vob files on the main page with all the other coverart.

These will need to be moved into a subfolder named VIDEO_TS

How to batch move all your vob, bup, ifo files to a subfolder names VIDEO_TS.

Download : https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwjqRgkVKt1IOTdYUDNQV2RaTGc/edit?usp=sharing

The only problem with this script I found is that it creates an empty VIDEO_TS folder for your mkv or avi files as well.

The fix for this is to find all the empty VIDEO_TS folders and deleted them with another Batch File.

The Remote Control Program Has Stopped Responding And You Will Be Returned To Windows Media Centre

I was receiving this message when playing music through Music Browser in Windows Media Center.

The music would still play but the remote would stop responding regularly and was getting quite annoying.

I disabled background pictures in media center as I thought this may be adding to the problem but the issue still remained.

I had been using music browser V1.3 for some time now and I never has an issue.

I had install the latest version of Music browser but it was not as good as the old version.

I uninstalled Music browser completely then rebooted and re-installed the old version V1.3 but the issue was still there.

FIX

Run Windows Media Center then scroll to Tasks, then General, then Windows Media Center Setup, then run Run Setup Again.

The only thing I needed to setup again was the TV Tuner card, i skipped the media library setup as I noticed my directories were all there, it also did not change my custom Theme.

Folder.Jpg Hidden

My Folder.jpg images are hidden or not highlighted, the culprit of wmp12 in my case.

I suspect that windows media player settings  are to blame.

Run windows media player, go to tools then options, then under player, library and privacy untick everything.

I will keep you informed as to whether media player still hides these files even though these settings are not selected.

To fix your current collection and return those folder.jpg back to normal and remove all hidden or system attributes from folder.jpg see below.

Go to Start, then in the search, key in cmd.exe.

Now type the destination of your music.

So the default location is c:\users\yourusername>

My music is in this directory e:/music.

So I typed e:

e:\> will display on the screen

now type cd music

e:\music> will display on the screen

Now type attrib -h -s folder.jpg /s

Should look something like this

e:\music>attrib -h -s folder.jpg /s

This may take some time depending on your collection so be patient

My Windows Media Centre Setup - A Work In Progress

Not Supported any longer RIP Windows Media Center, was good while it lasted - Using PLEX now

Here is the list of software I installed to get my Windows Media Centre To Look like this.

Do This At Your Own Risk

1 - file2folder.bat
2 - Media master_1.30c__setup.exe
3 - MCE_Media_Browser2_3_2.msi
4 - Music Browser 1.3.msi
5 - SetupVirtualCloneDrive5450.exe
6 - MediaCenterJukebox-0.5beta.msi
7 - Heatwave.Win32.1.3.1.0.msi
8 - MacroTube.Win32.0.8.2.0.msi
9 - mcShoutCast_32Bit_3_8_19.msi or Radiotime or Simpleradio
10 - MCStudioLauncher.exe
11 - RemotePotatoSetupv1.0.2_Stable.zip or ServeToMe
12 - Sharks 007 windows 7 codecs

Don't forget to get out of media centre before you install any of these add-ins.
All artwork in my media centre was found in google images.

1.1 - Rename movies to the same spelling as IMD, otherwise if this is a big job you can leave this to later on, but it may take little longer.

1.2 - Add cover art to Windows Media Centre Movies Library instead of the dreary coloured boxes.
To do this, you will need to download : file2folder.bat : http://www.sevenforums.com/attachments/tutorials/12135d1243394321-media-center-setup-movie-library-file2folder.zip

File2folder allowed me to take my movie files and create separate folders.
This will allow backdrops, cover art, dvdid.xml, and mymovies.xml if needed to be created.
Having this stored locally will allow things to just work trust me.

2 - Download Media Master : Media master_1.30c__setup.exe : http://forums.mediacentermaster.com/viewforum.php?f=2

2.1 - Once installed go to Application then Settings & Preferences, Read through all settings and change to your needs.Since I wanted this to work in Media Centre I ticked the box in the movies tab that said CREATE DVDID.XML META DATA(WMC MEDIA LIBRARY) Press Save.

2.2 -  Go to Application, then Set Scan  Folders, Press Add New, choose the destination path to your movie folder, Press Ok, then Done.

2.3 - Once your collection has been loaded, right click on a movie title, then click Fetch Meta Data.
Hopefully if everything is ok you should have some backdrops(if available), folder.jpg, dvdid.xml, and or mymovies.xml in the movie folder.

2.4 - If you haven't renamed any movies, Media Master will tell you when it can't find a movie. It will prompt you to add the movie ID number. See : http://lozaelec.blogspot.com/2011/06/imdb-movie-id-number.html on how to find the movie ID number from IMDB.

2.5 - Run Media Centre and scroll to Movie Library, click on it, you should see your covers appear.

3 - Download  and install : MCE_Media_Browser2_3_2.msi : http://code.google.com/p/videobrowser/downloads/detail?name=MCE_Media_Browser2_3_2.msi

3.1 - In the basic view Media tab, click on Add, then go to the folders where you media is held.

3.2 - I have created a Movies folder, a Kids folder, a Tv series folder, and a Standup folder. See example below

3.3 - Press done when finished.
3.4 - Click on the Plug-ins tab, click on More Plug-ins, choose the plugin you would like.

3.5 - You can install them all, some of them are free the rest cost.

3.6 - They do have a trial period, or you can purchase 1 or a bundle : http://www.mediabrowser.tv/store

3.7 - For more information see: http://blog.manghera.com/search/label/Pearl%20Theme

3.8 - On the display/playback tab under Theme Settings change the visual theme to one you like I have chosen Vanilla.

3.9 - Under the enhanced home screen change the yahoo weather Id to your region, see : http://lozaelec.blogspot.com/2011/06/yahoo-weather-id-for-media-browser.html

3.10 - Close when finished.

4 - As you will see there is already a Music library in windows media centre, but this does not allow you to choose your music by folder view. Music Browser is great.

4.1 - Music Browser 1.3.msi : http://musicbrowser.free.fr/download.html

4.2 - Download then install. When you run windows media centre you will only find music browser in the extras section, don't worry we will move this later.

5 - Time for Media Centre Jukebox, I use this as a Video Jukebox for the Music videos.

5.1 - You can Rip you personal dvd collection with Pavtube: http://www.pavtube.com/blu-ray-video-converter-ultimate/and convert them to say avi, saves space. Does cost, but works. Trial Available.

5.2 - You will need to install this file first : SetupVirtualCloneDrive5450.exe : http://virtualclonedrive.software.informer.com/download/

5.3 - Once installed, you can right click on Virtual Clone Drive in the tray and untick show in the tray.

6 - Now for Media Centre Jukebox : MediaCenterJukebox-0.5beta.msi : : http://sourceforge.net/projects/mcjukebox/

6.1 - Launch configuration tool, in the library path, choose your folder with all the avi music videos.

7 - Not working in my Windows media centre  HeatwaveWin32.1.3.1.0.msi : n Mcehttp://experts.windows.com/frms/windows_entertainment_and_connected_home/f/25/p/59564/276418.aspx#276418
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/12176/view-weather-conditions-in-windows-7-media-center/

7 - Mce Weather : http://www.jaast.com/downloads/    Works

When you first fire this up it maybe in another language.
Restart media centre again then choose extras, click on the weather icon then adjust settings.

7.1 - Time to download and install : Accept the terms and press next, tick show on start menu, next press install.

7.2 - Once installed run media centre and scroll to Weather, click on weather settings, click on add location and type in your city. Now click on edit locations, delete the locations you don't need, click save.

Sorry I havent updated the pictures for weather.

8 - Watch Your Favorite Youtube Videos From Windows Media Centre

32 bit : http://freedompeace.net/uploads/MacroTube.Win32.0.8.2.0.msi

9 - Now for Internet radio

9.1 - Download and install : shoutcast :  http://en.mcetools.de/Download/tabid/103/Default.aspx

9.2 - You have just installed Shoutcast which is present in "extras" in Media centre.

9.3 - We will create a web radio station icon that will work in a radio media centre strip later on.

9.4 - First run Media centre, then go to extras, then Laura FM, then search, enter your country or city, mine is Melbourne.

9.5 - Some common stations should appear.

9.6 - Left mouse click on a desired station under Add To Favourites, untick Your Favourites.

9.7 - keep adding stations that way, once done make your way back to Favourites in Shoutcast, you should see the stations you picked.

9.8 - To test click on a station, then play, you should hear it play.

9.9 - If you want to create your own stations that are not present in shoutcast, you will need to register and login into the shoutcast website first.

10 - Before we customize are themes and strips for windows media centre, run media centre, scroll to Tasks, then Settings, now Media Libraries, click on music, next, add folders to a library, next,  on this computer, next, choose the folder that contains your music, next , no I want to make more changes, continue.

10.1 - Now do the same for picture. For Videos I added the folder of my home Family videos.

10.2 - For Movies, next, add folders to a library, next, on this computer, next, choose the folder that contains your movies, (sec3.2) tick Movies , then Kids, then Tv, then Standup, next, yes use these location, finish. Your Libraries may take a while to populate depending on how big your library is.

10.3 - Media Centre Studio : http://www.adventmediacenter.com/ this uses click once technology.

Site down try : http://www.hack7mc.com/2011/11/media-center-studio-installation.html

Download :
http://www.hack7mc.com/wp-content/plugins/download-monitor/download.php?id=111

10.4 - Unzip and run MCStudioLauncher.exe

10.5 - If you would like to use my theme and then modify some menu strips and picture later, you can import my mct file from :
Mct File : https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0BwjqRgkVKt1INzdkYzUwY2UtYTcyMi00N2MzLWIwNTQtNzllODA3MzljMTAw&sort=name&layout=list&num=50

The file would play in winamp but not Windows Media Player.

Then went to "Turn Windows Features On Or Off ", Scrolled to media features, de-selected windows media player, rebooted. Back into:  "Turn Windows Features On Or Off" re-enabled media player to re-install it, but it still would not load.

Media Player 12 Deletes Library

Your Media Player 12 updates the library and when finished it starts to delete the library to zero.

This all started when I found that the folder.jpg files were changed to 200 x 200.

See : http://lozaelec.blogspot.com/2011/04/window-media-player-changed-images-to.html

This registry fix worked to stop the folder.jpg files being changed.

I then deleted all music.

From a back up drive, I copied all the music back with the correct folder.jpg 300 x 300 size.

When I ran media player its started to update the music, then after a while it deleted all the music.

The graphics of Media Player went white and then it locked up.

I tried to delete the .wmdb files in the media player folder so that it can recreate new .wmdb files, but it deleted the files.
After many days of fault finding and a phone call to Microsoft who wouldn't help because I had a copy of an Oem key. As an Installer of many PCs, I had to contact my supplier to get them to ring Microsoft for help.

Great help

Anyway, I decided to copy a few artists at a time, it worked.

So I searched the net for "Media Player Library Won’t Let You Add Files"

I found this : http://msgroups.net/microsoft.public.windowsmedia.player/WMP12-Bug-with-Large-Libraries-confirmed-and-reproducable

and

http://forum.wegotserved.com/index.php/topic/12577-wmp12-whs-pp3-mce-45k-songs-empty-library/

If I copied more than 32750 files this would reverse the library back to zero

The trick was to delete the whole collection and this time only add up to 30,000 files.

To do this I would highlight some of the artists and then go to properties.

If under 30,000 files, I would copy this to the managed library folder.

In media player the music library should now soon start to update the library

Once all the files have copied wait for media player to finish updating the music

When done close media player.

Open media player, keep your eye on the bottom right hand side you will soon see update complete

Now Copy and paste the next lot of music under 32750 files.

Media player will start to update the files as it is copying, wait for media player to finish updating the music

Then close it again, the restart again, keep doing this process until all music is copied.

Worked for me, after 2 weeks of fault finding its finally done.

Media Player 12 Will Not Update Library

Windows 7 ultimate

I deleted all me songs due to errors with media player 12 changing my folder.jpg picture sizes

When I ran media player it started to delete the library as expected.

I then placed 1artist and album in the folder and ran media player again, it locked up, would not do anything.

I went to file then manage libraries deleted the old library then added it again, then went to apply media changes still nothing.

I started again copying back over from backup while I was out for the day

When I got back this is what I did.

1) Closed media player

2) Went to  Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services then scrolled down to Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service and pressed stop.

3) Make your way to C:\Users\User\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player
The easiest way is Go to Start, All Programs, Accessories then Run
A textbox will come up enter %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player
press enter

4) The media player folder has A few .wmdb files, delete these.
I deleted everything including album cashe, this took while.

5) I then ran media player

6) It started indexing my music
If not, check to see that you have selected your managed library directory.
Go to file manage libraries, then music, and make sure your music folder is shown.

It worked for me hope it worked for you

Window Media Player Changed Images To 200 x 200

How upset was I when I found that my music collection for 43 years was now destroyed.

Yes WMP12 had changed it all, everything was working fine till the update.

So all those years of keeping all images at 300 x 300 was worth it .....Not.

Luckily I had a backup.

Media Player should make a copy of the image in a smaller size to use in media player, but leave my images as is.

I use MCE and Music Browser and it uses my large images and does not touch anything at all.

When media player resizes these image it then expands it and distorts images.

Anyway I found this info that may help :

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itpromedia/thread/747b74e2-4f29-42f2-8457-f9513bee5c23/

http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=75461

Don't get me wrong, the Latest update to Media Player 12 has had a lot of work done, just upset over the images.

Now I will have to spend another two days working out how to stop my media from being touched, then make sure it doesn't. What happens when I add new music, will I remember to modify those folders to read only etc.

This is what I have done after hours reading everyone else's disappointment

I tried this on a new windows 7 machine with Media Player V12.0.7601.17514

I created one artist folder, with one album in it and a folder.jpg picture of 300 x 300.

I then went to Start, from search programs and files, keyed in regedit.

If you are not familiar with regedit don't attempt this.

If you are feeling confident go to File then Export create a name then back up to folder first.

Scrolled to HKEY CURRENT USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Preferences

One thing most people have failed to explain is that you will need to create these entries.

LargeAlbumArtSize = dword -:ffffffff

SmallAlbumArtSize = dword: - ffffffff

Right click on preferences and choose new dword, enter LargeAlbumArtSize

Double click on this entry and change the value to ffffffffff

Right click on preferences again, choose new dword, enter SmallAlbumArtSize

Double click on this entry and change the value to ffffffffff

All options in media player were turned off - found in tools then options, check every tab and turn off all updates of any type.

I the ran Media player and added the music folder and this time the folder.jpg was not changed, only hidden.

I always keep my operating system files shown.

This unfortunately keeps a desktop.ini file on the desktop but it doesn't bother me.

It allows me to see the folder.jpg files once hidden and that is important to me.

If you cant see your hidden folder.jpg then go to Start Then Control Panel, Folder Options, view, show hidden files, folders, and drives and also untick hide protected operating system files(recommended).

After a few years, everything seemed to be OK till I noticed that some folders had their folder.jpg files changed to 200 x 200.

Not sure why yet but it may be due file sharing on other computers (keep you informed)

Streaming Music To Iphone From Windows Media Player

Download Remote Potato Ui Windows Service :  http://www.fatattitude.com/software/software-downloads.aspx?id=12

Run it install then enter a username and password when told to do so.

Also you may be asked to enter the pc's username and password if you have one entered to run Remote Potato.

This is safe, Remote Potato do not save PCs user name password, this is just for the server to initially start.

Download the app to IPhone or Itunes : http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/remote-potato/id378287173?mt=8

Go to the RemotePotato app.

In the server settings , Name: enter whatever you like, URL: enter you wan ip address, if unsure see my blog : http://lozaelec.blogspot.com/2011/07/what-is-my-wan-ip-address.html

In Port: enter 9080

In Security: turn this on and enter the user name and password used for the Remote Potato.

I setup my Router Firewall to allow from the outside world for port number 9080.

Then setup the virtual server or port forward to allow port number 9080 to go to the shared PCs ip address eg 192.168.1.5.

This works over Wifi and even 3G mobile data

Click on one of the servers you have set up

I have one called Remote Potato for the 3g connection and have one labelled Remote Potato Local for a wifi connection.

Make sure you have say windows media centre running.

Choose say the 3g connection turn off your Wifi.

Now click on say music click on artist you should now see it search for the collection. This may take a few minutes.

You may need to keep touching the screen so the screen doesn't turn off.

Once it has got to z, you should see all your collection

Click on an artist then an album then choose a song to play, click play now.

Now remember to do the same for the local connection but remember to turn on Wifi.

All done : Great app.

Windows 7 Media Centre radiotime

Want Internet radio on your windows 7 media centre.

Download the plugin from here http://radiotime.com/Error.aspx?aspxerrorpath=/partners/mediacenter.aspx

After you have installed it go to https://radiotime.com/

On the top right you will find "Sign Up"

Create a new free account.

It will automatically log you in once done.

If you now run Media centre then scroll to extras library, you should see radiotime icon.

To create a preset, log into radiotime https://radiotime.com, click on local radio, click on your local state and then local metro area.

A list of your common radio stations will appear.

Choose a station to become a preset by click on the listen, another page will open, click on add to presets.

Now when you go to the Presets tab you will see the stations you have chosen.

Seems not to be supported fully in MCE, I now use Simple Radio : http://code.google.com/p/windows-mediacenter-plugins/wiki/SimpleRadioAbout
