Click add then enter you parameters, then click Apply.

If you try to add an IP address that is within the DHCP range it will give you this error.

You need top pick an IP address that is is not between 20 and 254 - in my case that leaves me between 1 and 19.

Dns Server

DNS - stands for Domain Name System.

The DNS Tcp/Ip protocols job is to translate a name into an Ip address so that you reach the destination site.

Eg: When you type into your search engine say "google.com" it goes to your dns server and asks for the name to be translated into an Ip address. Your isp in most cases has set this up in the modem so that it points to their DNS server which is basically a large list of Domain names and Ip addresses.

Say I new the Ip address of a website I could use this instead of typing the name, the only problem is that they rotate the dns servers.

Eg: 199.59.148.82 this belongs to twitter. : http://www.whois.net/ip-address-lookup/199.59.148.82

You can work out the Net range of a Domain by going to : http://www.whois.net/ip-address-lookup.
Type in a Domain name say Twitter.com and this will give you the net range.
Twitter is : 199.59.148.0 - 199.59.151.255

You can download a Domain Name Speed test by going to : http://www.grc.com/dns/benchmark.htm

Download the tool from : http://www.grc.com/files/DNSBench.exe

Once run go to Nameservers then click on Run Benchmark.

I waited around 30 seconds or so then pressed stop.

In the first example you can see that mine is set to the modems Gateway 192.168.2.254 which is set to my ISP Dns server.

The list shows fastest first.

The next fastest is googles Dns Server. Their Preferred dns server is 8.8.8.8 and Alternate dns server is 8.8.4.4.

In the second example I have changed my DNS settings in network adapter to Googles dns server 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

NanoStation M2 Setup As An Access Point

I decided to upgrade my Nanostation 2 to the Nanostation m2.

I was so happy with the performance of the Nanostation 2 that i wanted to upgrade to include wireless N .

The Nanostation M2 mode includes IEEE 802.11 B/G/N mixed.

I have set this up as an indoor Access point

I found that the my modems wireless worked well upstairs but would not do the whole house as well as the downstairs area including the garage. I wanted something that just worked everywhere.

I disabled the wireless on the modem and configured the Nanostation m2.

I had a network connection downstairs, so it was simple to connect to the existing network.

Nanostation M2 default IP addres 192.168.1.20 or https://192.168.1.20/link.cgi.

The default username and password is ubnt

I configured the Nanostation as a wireless access point then created a wireless password.

Don't forget to change the Nanostation username and password which is ubnt.

Most people change the wireless password but forget to change the device password.

If you are having issues connecting to it even though the passwords are correct you may need to disable airMax in airMax settings and also set the channel width to 20.

This is the best wireless access point I have used.

Here is some snapshots of my configuration.

Sharing Files With Friend

You are probably using dropbox but are unhappy with the upload speed.

Here it is ccfile transfer.

On the left hand side Choose My Friend, go to Account, then New account, add user name and password, click OK.

I have created Michael in this example.

On the left hand side again choose File Share, then from the top menu choose Share, then new file share, click browser, choose the file you want to share, click Auth then click OK.

Now on the top menu, click on options, then settings, choose a port number to use, I have used 5555, select Auto Run and Enable Internet Access, click OK.

Time to setup the modem.

Login to your modem.

I have created 2 entries, one in Firewall / Packet Filter and one in Virtual server / Port Forwarding.

In the Virtual server / port forwarding I have added the PC with ccfile running (192.168.103.1) and port 5555 as seen above.

To see if this is working locally open Internet explorer and in the URL, type your local ip address and the port number you used EG. http192.168.103.1:5555

To test this externally got to ccfile, at the top you will see copy url, press it, Go to Internet explorer and paste into the URL Eg : http:// yourexternal ip:5555/download.htm?file=mylarge file.iso

This is the URL you would give to the other person to download your file.

A security window will appear key in the user and password you created earlier.

Done.

Delete Vpn Users Windows 7

You created a Vpn  incoming connection in windows 7 then deleted the Vpn connection but the user still appears.

The user does not appear in control panel user accounts either.

What you need to do is create a new Vpn account again using that user then delete the user first before you delete the Vpn connection.

Right click on Network, then properties, then change adapter settings.

File, new incoming connections, click add someone, enter user name and passwords.

Next, tick through the Internet, then next, then make sure tcp/ipv4 is checked, then allow access.

Take note of the Computer Name, then close.

You will now see incoming connections in your network connections.

If you delete this connection without deleting the user you will not be able to delete that user.

If you have deleted this connection you will need to create it again then the option to delete will appear.

No Way To Delete User

Delete User
